Contest

Monday, February 28th, 2011

UPDATE: Voting has ENDED.  I approved the last of the votes from yesterday and any further votes will be unapproved at this point. Thanks to all who have participated!  Winners will be announced by Friday, March 11th unless I am having a baby by then. :)

Hello!  I’m excited to announce today a contest on this blog!  This is my first ever contest and I’m really excited to see who will win.

During this slow season, I’ve been a little preoccupied with planning for the baby but I’m ready to get something going on this blog and to give away an awesome prize to one of my 2010 clients!  This year I will be offering canvas prints through a local company AW Artworks and in order to get things started in that direction I wanted to give away one 16×20 canvas print.

Please read through the directions below so your two votes will count!

Here’s how it will work:  I am going to post my favorite photos of 2010 below.  The rules are to leave only one comment listing your two favorite photos (each photo is numbered to make it easy for you).  You are obviously more than welcome to vote for your own photo (or your friend/family who sent you here) but then I’d like you to vote for a photo with a different subject/event for the second.  PLEASE NOTE:  Anonymous votes will be discarded.  Also (to make voting fair since some people have only one photo and some have two) you MUST vote twice and choose two different subjects (if you vote twice for the same person, even if they are in two different pictures, then I will discard both votes). I’ve indicated which photos are from the same couple, wedding, family that you can only vote once for, just so there isn’t any confusion. The voting will last one week and end at 11:59pm on Monday, March 7th, 2011.  The photo with the most votes will win and the person/couple the photo belongs to will receive a 16×20 canvas print of their choice!

Grab a scratch piece of paper and pen to mark down your two favorites so you don’t forget by the time you get to the comment box!! There are 34 photos total.

Who knew it would be so hard to narrow down my favorites! In no particular order here are my 2010 favorites!!

Please Note:  The corresponding number for each photo is the number above the photo.

Stephanie & Eric Milwaukee, WI Engagement Photographs

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Here’s my next attempt to get caught up on blogging, let’s see how well I can do this week. I know it’s good to have a current and consistently updated blog but life is busy, the pregnancy is taking up more of my time than expected, and as long as my clients are getting great service I’m okay with letting the blog get a behind.

So instead of showing everything in order I’ll mix it up a bit so the weddings aren’t all one after the other.

Stephanie and Eric are such a fun couple. Since day one I knew I wanted to photograph them. They are playful, kind, and have really great personalities.  I met up with Stephanie and Eric in Milwaukee for their engagement session earlier this summer. They love the city so we started at a park that overlooks Milwaukee then continued downtown until it was too dark.

Here are some of my favorites:

I wanted Stephanie and Eric’s engagement session to be personal and totally them.  I told them they could bring different things to incorporate into the first half of their session in Milwaukee, WI.  They often read together out loud the Harry Potter books so of course they brought one along.  I totally loved this partly because Jordan and I also like to read aloud together and because it’s so simple and so them.

I absolutely LOVE the light and moment in these last two photos. The only thing I love more is Stephanie’s laughter.  I have to admit that I’m not the funniest person around and I don’t have that great personality that makes couples laugh so hard that they are rolling on the floor. AND I’m okay with that.  I’m more interested in working with couples that laugh a lot together because of the love and joy they have together.  I’m not a comedian, I just take photos of moments and that’s why this photo of her laughing makes me so happy. I’m not forcing the photo to look a specific way (yes, I had them lay on the ground in this manner but the rest is them) I’m just letting them be themselves and this is how I will continue to photograph.  This is what makes this job so worth it and joyful for me.

After the park we took a quick walk across the street to the little food cart that sold the doughnuts I kept hearing so much about.  They live in such a great location in Milwaukee where they are able to walk to their favorite hangouts in the evenings and these doughnuts are sometimes the late night snack that they love to pick up on their way home.  They are really very good.

Stephanie and Eric, I had such a great time hanging out with you in your neck of the woods and I absolutely CAN’T wait for your wedding in just a few short weeks!  You are such a great couple and I love working with the two of you.

Shane & Melinda :: Madison, WI Engagement Photography

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

The beauty about the work I do is that I get to meet so many new people I may not have otherwise crossed paths with. I love meeting new people- it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. I know that sounds like a cliche thing that all photographers say but I really do love this part of my job that allows me to photograph so many different people.

Shane and Melinda are no exception to the rule. I’m so glad my job created a way for our paths to cross during this time in their lives. They are both in the medical field and the type of couple you just know belongs together just by looking at them and watching them interact. I knew I’d LOVE to shoot this engagement session when they suggested doing the photo shoot at a DNR (Department of Natural Resources) land near where they live. Jordan and I are HUGE fans of natural areas around Madison, Deforest, Middleton and so I knew this would be great- and not just because I liked it but because they liked it and it’s totally them!

Enough of my thoughts- let’s get on to the photographs!

The ring!

I Love love LOVE these black and whites!!

Shane and Melinda really wanted their dogs to make an appearance and I was happy to oblige!

I think this is one of my favorites!

Adam & Deanna :: Milwaukee, WI Engagement Photography

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

I first met Adam and Deanna months back when they were searching for a photographer for their wedding in June. I could tell instantly that they were in love, that Deanna has great fashion, and that I’d love to photograph their wedding! So you better believe I was so excited when they booked me!

We had a blast shooting the engagement photos and I’m so glad I will get to do it again in less than a month! I’m doing a two-part engagement session, the first in Milwaukee with tons of their relationship history and the second at Deanna’s family cabin! you’ll have to wait for part two but let me tell you about part one (given to me by Deanna and paraphrased by me)!

Adam and Deanna met when Adam moved into the a house with all of Deanna’s really good friends. For two years they were just friends. “On New Years of 2006 the ‘crush’ phase started. We would find reasons to call or text each other.” Finally on January 21, 2006 was the FIRST KISS on Newberry Blvd. The rest I will just paste what she wrote because it’s better that way! “We lived in Milwaukee til July of 2007 until we moved in ‘together’ and relocated in Waukesha. Adam buttered me up for 2 more years, became a member of my family and me a member of his. We became best friends…..soul mates…. And then on a cold rainy day in April (the 65th wedding Anniversary of my Grandparents, haha!) he FINALLY bent down on one muddy knee-and proposed. Sigh……”

We started off the engagement session at Lapham Peak State Park at their actual engagement location. We quickly learned that there was a marathon going on at the same time. These marathoner’s were intense! The tower (with lots of stairs) was the mid-point in the race so they had to run up (slippery and sometimes narrow) trails and up the tower, ring the bell, and then all the way back. Crazy!

I thought it would be fun (cheesy) to have Adam pretend he was asking her to marry him again, just like on that cold April day almost a year ago. I totally love these photos more than I thought I would! here are only a couple out of the series of shots.

Then we headed over to Newberry Blvd where they had their first kiss! Only seems fitting to have a kissing picture!

I loved hearing them talk about life back when they first started falling for one another. As we sat in Roast Coffee Company they pointed to the corner where they’d often stop and talk before departing their separate ways for the evening.

Can you tell I like the kissing pictures? Yes, I did get photos of them doing something other than kissing.

Adam and Deanna- I had a blast with the two of you and thanks for sharing your story! I’m looking forward to our second session in a few weeks and to meet your family as well!
