Brian and Charleen’s Chicago Wedding

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Brian and Charleen’s wedding was a first Chicago wedding for me.  Being originally from Colorado and now living here in Madison, WI for the past 3 1/2 years I was excited to finally get to shoot in Chicago, and (might I add) not at the typical Chicago spots.  I met Brian and Charleen for the first time on their wedding day and I was not disappointed in the least.  I enjoyed seeing all the final details come together (I had gotten little glimpses here and there of what Charleen had been envisioning and working on).  Her and her family really put in some hours to make the day beautiful and personal.  I was amazed to find out that the brides mother personally made 200 dog candle favors by herself! The highlight of the evening was getting to hear the song Charleen and her father, Dennis, sang together (composed by Charleen) and the song Charleen sang to Brian.  So good.

By the way…  Charleen is an amazing singer.  Go check out her fan page on Facebook and “like” her!  Check out this recent you tube video of her:

Brian and Charleen, blogging your wedding day takes me back to what a beautiful and joy filled day you and your family created. The way the two of you look at one another is really endearing.  I am thankful to have been able to capture your special day in images.  Best wishes to both of you.

Bob + Courtney Colorado Springs, CO Wedding Photography Part 2

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Remember Bob + Courney‘s wedding in Colorado?  Ya, it’s been a while since I posted Part 1 but here is Part 2.  Bob and Courtney had their wedding on the grounds of Fountain Valley School.  Let me tell you – this is now my favorite wedding location in Colorado Springs if you are a bride and groom looking for a gorgeous location.  Enjoy the photos.

Bob and Courtney – My love for the two of you runs deep.  You are my family and I’m so proud to call you that.  Thank you for trusting me with your day.

Bob + Courtney Colorado Springs, CO Wedding Photography Part 1

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Bob and Courtney mean the world to me, beside the fact that Bob is my younger brother and Courtney now my sis-in-law, and I was so excited when they asked me to be their wedding photographer!  This was my first trip flying with my daughter, Jolene, and we did it alone on Mothers Day when she was only 6 weeks old!  I’m realizing that if there is ever a time to fly solo with a newborn, it’s Mother’s Day!!  Lot’s of grace and kind words.  The trip home, on the other hand, not-so-much.

Anyway, back to Bob and Courtney.  They had their wedding at one of my new favorites in Colorado Springs, CO!  The wedding was held at Fountain Valley School at the little chapel there (although the courtyard would be fabulous for a smaller outdoor wedding!!).

Because I hate to post too many photos in one  blog post, I’ll split it up into two parts.  Here’s part one.  Some getting ready, a somewhat last minute decision about a first look, and right up until the ceremony.

Eric & Stephanie Madison, WI Wedding

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Eric and Stephanie (also a couple who married last year) had a wonderful October wedding.  Eric and Stephanie crack me up!  They are hilarious and their fun and playful spirit is infectious!  I mean, how can you not love someone who is posting different Meatloaf songs to his facebook for 26 days! This wedding was beautiful and I loved the thought and detail that was put into planning this wedding BUT far above all of that these two were made for one another and their love for each other couldn’t have been more obvious.  It was a joy to be a part of their wedding and having the opportunity to get to know a little bit about this wonderful couple.   Enough from me – here are the photos!

Now, I have to add a few things here after this last photo.  This is Steph’s maid of honor giving her toast.  You may wonder what is going on here but as soon as I saw those red gloves I knew exactly.  She was getting ready to sing a song to them and referencing My Best Friends Wedding – the part where everyone busts into song while eating together and in the background there is a man swaying with lobster hands. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then feel free to look it up.  The reason I point this out is just to say how awesome Eric, Steph, and their bridal party are!  That took me back to the many times my best friend and I watched that movie and the hundreds of times we rewound the movie to watch that part specifically.  :) Now if you doubt my judgement here, don’t worry, they tore it up on the dance floor and there are a couple photos at the end to show you.  I should also mention I love a good dance party at receptions and Eric and Steph weren’t lying when they told me how hopping the dance floor would be that night.

Eric and Steph I absolutely adore the pair of you!  Thank you for letting be a part of your wedding day.  It was a blast working with you and your family and I hope you’ll contact me in the future for anniversary photos and so on.  I wish you all the best!

Adam & Deanna Wedding Photographs near Platteville, WI

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Adam and Deanna have been married almost a year now (yes, I am more than a little behind on blogging) but I remember their wedding day as if it were just last month.  From the moment I met them I thought the world of them!

A couple things that stood out to me about them as a couple, their wedding, and their family is that they love one another so very well and they know how to enjoy life.  Deanna has three sisters and through their interaction together I found a greater appreciation for my own sister.  This was one of my favorite weddings from last season and I am the luckiest to have gotten to know Adam and Deanna and their families.  Having clients like them make this job worthwhile.

Adam and Deanna – I absolutely loved photographing your wedding! It’s been a joy to know the pair of you and your family. Congrats on your first anniversary coming up soon and I hope you many years of happiness in your marriage.

Delightfully, Patricia

Contest

Monday, February 28th, 2011

UPDATE: Voting has ENDED.  I approved the last of the votes from yesterday and any further votes will be unapproved at this point. Thanks to all who have participated!  Winners will be announced by Friday, March 11th unless I am having a baby by then. :)

Hello!  I’m excited to announce today a contest on this blog!  This is my first ever contest and I’m really excited to see who will win.

During this slow season, I’ve been a little preoccupied with planning for the baby but I’m ready to get something going on this blog and to give away an awesome prize to one of my 2010 clients!  This year I will be offering canvas prints through a local company AW Artworks and in order to get things started in that direction I wanted to give away one 16×20 canvas print.

Please read through the directions below so your two votes will count!

Here’s how it will work:  I am going to post my favorite photos of 2010 below.  The rules are to leave only one comment listing your two favorite photos (each photo is numbered to make it easy for you).  You are obviously more than welcome to vote for your own photo (or your friend/family who sent you here) but then I’d like you to vote for a photo with a different subject/event for the second.  PLEASE NOTE:  Anonymous votes will be discarded.  Also (to make voting fair since some people have only one photo and some have two) you MUST vote twice and choose two different subjects (if you vote twice for the same person, even if they are in two different pictures, then I will discard both votes). I’ve indicated which photos are from the same couple, wedding, family that you can only vote once for, just so there isn’t any confusion. The voting will last one week and end at 11:59pm on Monday, March 7th, 2011.  The photo with the most votes will win and the person/couple the photo belongs to will receive a 16×20 canvas print of their choice!

Grab a scratch piece of paper and pen to mark down your two favorites so you don’t forget by the time you get to the comment box!! There are 34 photos total.

Who knew it would be so hard to narrow down my favorites! In no particular order here are my 2010 favorites!!

Please Note:  The corresponding number for each photo is the number above the photo.

Wedding Albums: Madison, WI Wedding Photography

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Wedding albums!  I absolutely LOVED designing this album for Eric and Stephanie!  It totally helps though to have a company to work with that I totally LOVE and fabulous clients on top of that.  :)   This is a bit of a sneak peek since I have yet to blog Eric and Steph’s wedding (I’m getting on that soon) but here you go – I couldn’t wait to share this beautiful album! FYI – all the photos in the actual album are in focus and as they should be – they may appear out of focus here but only because I was photographing the product and didn’t intend for everything to be in focus.

It took me a while to sift through all the professional album companies out there but when I found Finao I knew they were the only company I was willing to work with.  Being eco-friendly, recycling, care for the environment, organic are all things that are very important to my husband and I in our home life.  My husband will fill our trunk of the car up so full of items that the curbside recycling won’t accept but can be recycled if taken straight to the recycling place.  It’s almost overboard if you ask me but it’s also one of the reasons I love him so and I love our life together.  He makes me a better person.  We try to take care of the environment as best as we can and we will forgo most luxuries to have the luxury of eating organic food and supporting local farmers.  It’s been a huge shift in my life since marrying a man so passionate about these things but I can honestly say I’m proud of how we live our life even if it does mean rarely eating out (and eating vegetarian at most restaurants) and finding fun ways to enjoy life without a TV in the home, going to movies, and various other activities.  This has all become very important to me and I can’t imagine not using a company for my business that lines up with what I value in my personal life.  So of course I had no need to look any further when I read Finao’s “Our Little Green Piece” (I’ll quote it at the end of this post for those interested in reading further).  Basically they are awesome and anyone would be lucky to own any of their handmade albums.  More photos?  Sure!

Each album I make is designed by me and is unique.  I don’t use templates and it would take far too long to go back and mimic exact layouts from this album or any other.  Eric and Stephanie chose the One album which comes with the Armour cover (“A metallic print emulsion on a metal panel cover upgrade that is tough yet delightful.” the description from Finao) and the fabric/leather choice of the couple.  The photos are printed on thick standard pages with a creased page (aka – one photo can go across an entire spread, two pages, without the annoyance of a big gap or line down the center of the picture.  I was quite surprised at how little you actually see the crease).

Well, there you have it!  If you are a current, future, or past bride or groom and are interested in more information regarding the wedding albums I offer please send me an email at rejoyphotography@gmail.com.

OUR LITTLE GREEN PIECE

Looking for green and good citizens, you say?

Finao prides itself in being a good citizen and one of the greenest album companies around. We take great care of our associates. We take great care in selecting the materials we use. We take great care in how we package our products and we even have an extensive office recycling program. How’s that for green?

Some other ways we strive to stay green include:

  • Our “pleathers” are all PVC free.
  • We try to include many fabrics – even better!
  • We will not use hides that have been tanned in Asia. The working conditions are simply too poor.
  • Our product packaging is completely green
    • Hand-made recycled pineapple leaf paper used for wrapping
    • Hand-made recycled Mulberry leaves used for the ribbons
    • Mulberry skeleton leaves used for decoration
    • Natural kraft tissue used in wrapping and packaging
    • Corn starch peanuts used as packing materials
    • Paper tape used to seal all boxes
    • Completely recyclable cardboard used for packing and shipping
  • All our other packing is made from all natural organic materials that can be reused and recycled.
  • The peanuts we receive from Seldex are biodegradable and any unused peanuts are recycled to a pack and ship facility.
  • Every possible scrap of paper, glass, metal and plastic is recycled.
  • Our albums are constructed from as many natural, post consumer, and completely recyclable materials as possible.
  • Everything is made by hand. If it weren’t for building lighting, a power failure would hardly effect our production.
  • Our Finao products are made in the USA, as are all their component parts. We are proof that small manufacturing can survive and prosper in this country.
  • All of our associates have excellent working conditions, a great heath care plan, and completely paid leave and holidays. We think they actually like working for Finao and take pride in everything they do.
